Boku no Hero Academia

Several spin-offs series related with Boku no Hero Academia has been released since 2015 but I think the main story still hold the main attractiveness. As shown in its titles, this manga tells about superheroes. The world has changed. Most human would possess superpowers which called quirk. The main character, Izuku Midoriya, has no quirk and thus often bullied by his childhood friend. However, Izuku has a big dream and wants to become a hero. He idolizes the world’s greatest heroes All Might. One day, All Might reveals the nature of his quirks and passes it down to Izuku after seeing the youth’s potential. This manga follows the story of Izuku in becoming a hero while attending U.A High School. He was determined to become a great hero and to protect the world from any evil.

But I’m not going to talk about Izuku. I want to discuss about Todoroki Enji, one of the heroes in Boku no Hero Academia. He was known as Flame Hero: Endeavor. Endeavor was always known as an aggressive person and had a very bad temper when people start comparing him with All Might. As a Pro Hero, he wished to become the strongest and known as the number one hero. In order to achieve that, he sacrifices everything including his own family.

Endeavor married Rei and become the father of four, Toya, Fuyumi, Natsuo and Shoto. Blinded by his desire to become number 1, he deemed the first three of his children as ‘failures’. Always known as No. 2, he finally reached the top and become No. 1 hero after All Might retired. However, something changed after he became No. 1. Since he was already at the top, he didn’t know what to pursue. He started looking back and regretting all the things he had done to his own family. He had lost his first son, Todoroki Toya, but he wished he could become the actual father figure for Fuyumi, Natsuo and Shoto. Admitting his own mistakes, he holds no ill will towards any of his family members.

He accepted whatever criticism they gave him and accepts the fact that his family might never forgive him for what he did in the past. I guess a hero was human too. They made mistakes. Endeavor was blinded by his determination to become number 1 hero and neglect everything else. It was too late if he wants to become a good father for Toya, but it might not too late for the rest of his kids. What do you think? If you’re curious whether Endeavor could make up to his family, you can read Boku no Hero Academia in Shonen Jump.
